Excuse Me a Moment...

A quick "What I Love" post for my Send Something Good pals!

I love turquoise & teal, green & blue.
I love to read... Jane Austen, chick lit, biographies, travel books cook books.
I love boats without motors... sailboats & canoes.
I love to travel... especially to England & Europe.
I love to bake. and knit. and sew.
I love anything in miniature or smaller then usual size.

I'm a bit of a fibre snob; my heart sings when I see wool, linen, cotton! not so much for acrylic, polyester & nylon.

And that's all I can think of to write at this early hour!

Thanks so much to the three ladies who are making Something Good happen!

First Sweater - Done!

This sweater I started in January is done!  I'm pretty impressed with having it done in three months (I figured I'd give myself a year when I started); the winter is a good time to sit and knit so I had a fair bit done after just one month and before two months were done I had just the sleeves to go!  I almost lost steam doing the sleeves but pressed on (Googled the magic loop method helped) and got it done.

I love the colours. I love the pocket.  I love saying "I knit that".

I really love it from the back!

Five Favourites

Homework from a podcast?  For real?  OK, I'll do it!  The ladies on the Joy the Baker podcast assigned homework two weeks ago (I'm just sneaking in before the deadline!): a blog post about your five favourite things; here are mine!

1.  Sigg water bottle.  Hydration is key.  Siggs don't leak.  Enough said. (Plus it happens to be my favourite colour.)

2.  This necklace from filou.  It's my current go to necklace.

3.  iPhone.  Sad but true.  Up til last August I was a cell-less girl and now I'm in love.

4. Bamboo needles and yarn.  Knitting is like sitting and doing nothing but still being productive so you don't feel bad about sitting and doing nothing.  Bamboo needles make it better!

5.  Good mail.  I love it! Always have, always will.  If you're interested check out this mail swap project!

What are your favourite things?

A Bale of Turtles

These little turtles were made to celebrate the first bike ride of the season.  They attach to handlebars and are the perfect mascots for Team Turtle!

Team Turtle came about last year when the girls & I were out on a ride and we found some turtles in need of rescuing (listen turtles: the middle of the road is not a good place to stop!).  I also maintain my motto is "slow and happy"; I'm out to enjoy myself not knock myself out by getting to the finish line first.  So Team Turtle it is.  A great excuse to try out this tutorial over on Ric-Rac.

The original turtles aren't meant to hang off bikes so I added a hair elastic at the tail end which wraps under the handlebars and clips onto a button at the head end of the turtles.

In case you were wondering, their names are Speedy, Harrison & Earl.  Speedy doesn't like the wind, Harrison likes riding upside down and Earl had the good sense to stay home when it was hailing!

A New Addition!

I'd like to introduce you to my new camera!

So exciting!  I bought my first (digital) SLR last weekend!  It's something I'd been thinking about for a while... replacing my 7 year old point and shoot (which has a couple technical difficulties now and then).  I thought about getting another point and shoot but I really love the quality of photos you can achieve with SLRs.  My main concern with an SLR is the size of it; not exactly something you can throw in your pocket, but I'm hoping the quality of pictures makes up for the slight inconvenience of carrying it around.  (I feel a camera bag craft coming up!)  I'm really happy with the few photos I've taken so far and am ploughing my way through the users manual (nerd alert: I'm the kind of person that does actually read the whole manual cover to cover).

And here is my family portrait of cameras: iPhone, compact point + shoot, "big" point + shoot, SLR.

(Does four cameras seem excessive for one person?)
